Porches are typically small-scale additions that enjoy very high approval rates. Many qualify as permitted development, so applications are usually for those in conservation areas or near highways.

What these results show

• Porches under 3 sqm with a height under 3m and more than 2m from a highway are usually permitted development.
• Applications are almost always for porches in conservation areas, near roads, or on listed buildings.
• Refusals are rare but typically cite impact on the street scene or conflict with the character of a conservation area.
• Porches are a low-risk application — if you need permission, you’re very likely to get it.
⚠️ These are national examples. Your council could be stricter — or more lenient. See what actually gets approved on your street →
